Taiwan Digital Gold Card Program Surpasses 1,100 Approved Applicants
Taiwan's Employment Gold Card in the digital field, known as the DIGI Gold Card program, has surpassed 1,100 approved applicants, highlighting the country's growing appeal to international digital professionals, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) said Monday.
The milestone was announced at a press conference held at the digiBlock C Digital Innovation Base. Since its launch less than three years ago, the digital field has emerged as the fastest-growing among Taiwan's 12 specialized Gold Card categories.
"Taiwan's strength in ICT and semiconductor technology are globally recognized, but our future lies in becoming a global crossroads for talent," said Huang Ya-ping, Deputy Director General of the Administration for Digital Industries. She noted that the DIGI Gold Card program provides a fast track for international professionals seeking to contribute to Taiwan's rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
As of Feb. 26, 2026, the program had approved 1,124 applications, according to MODA. Software technology development accounts for about 60% of approved applications, followed by digital marketing, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI).
At the press conference, three DIGI Gold Card holders shared their experiences working in Taiwan. Shian Lee from Malaysia, a drone technology entrepreneur, said the program helps connect international design expertise with Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain. Carrie Pederson from the United States founded a startup in Taipei after being drawn by Taiwan's transparent legal system and open digital environment and is now hiring local talent. Jordi Vallejo from Spain moved to Taiwan with his family after receiving the DIGI Gold Card and now advises Taiwanese firms on expanding into European markets.
The event also featured international enterprise representatives, who shared insights from an employer's perspective on how the DIGI Gold Card program is used to recruit and engage global digital talent, as well as practical experiences of cross-border collaboration and talent development in Taiwan.
The LinkedIn group "DIGI Gold Card Community" has grown to more than 3,500 members, connecting digital professionals in Taiwan and abroad.
The DIGI Gold Card functions as a four-in-one permit, combining a work permit, residence visa, Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and re-entry permit. Cardholders are not tied to a single employer and may freelance, change jobs, or start businesses. Their spouses are also eligible to work, and families may enroll in Taiwan's National Health Insurance system.
Widely known as a global semiconductor powerhouse, Taiwan is also positioning itself as a hub for digital innovation. MODA said attracting global talent will further strengthen Taiwan's digital field and enhance its global competitiveness.
