The Ministry of Digital Affairs Marks Establishing UAV Cybersecurity Laboratories by Private Sector for One Year, with 22 UAV Models Passing the Cybersecurity Tests.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs (moda) stated that to effectively assist the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)  industry in our country to enhance its cybersecurity capabilities and reduce the cybersecurity risks caused by cyber attacks on UAVs, it initiated the establishment of the "UAV Cybersecurity Joint Testing Laboratory" by gathering private sector cybersecurity companies through its affiliated foundation, the Telecom Technology Center (TTC), in March 2023. During the past year, it has assisted 13 domestic UAV manufacturers and 22 UAV models in passing product cybersecurity testing, including several military-grade drones and commercial models. TTC has also become the world's first accredited UAV testing laboratory by DEKRA Group, a third-party professional testing and certification organization. The moda will continue to assist domestic UAVs in enhancing their cybersecurity resilience, industry competitiveness,  and visibility and further expand into the global market.

Deputy Minister Huai-jen Lee led a ministry team to visit the "UAV Cybersecurity Joint Testing Laboratory" located in Luzhu, Kaohsiung, today (14th), inspecting the current situation of cybersecurity testing for remote-controlled UAVs in Taiwan. The moda stated that considering the flourishing global UAV industry, UAVs are widely applied in military, logistics, commercial, measuring, agriculture, firefighting, rescuing, and showcasing. Taiwan possesses geographical advantages for UAV industry development and has become one of the critical UAV manufacturing and application bases, highlighting the significance of UAV cybersecurity.

Following the policy directives from the Executive Yuan and with the support of the National Science and Technology Council, the moda initiated the establishment of the "UAV Cybersecurity Joint Testing Laboratory" on March 1st,2023, with the participation of four cybersecurity testing laboratories. Up until the end of March this year, it has expanded to include five laboratories, namely TTC, CHT Security Co., Onward Security, Digiforen Technology Co., Ltd., and Taiwan Testing and Certification Center (ETC)

The moda has highlighted the importance of promoting cybersecurity testing in the "UAV Cybersecurity Joint Testing Laboratory" to build a trusted" Made in Taiwan" UAV supply chain. The current focus of cybersecurity testing in the laboratory includes product system security, software security, communication security, and firmware security, aiming to assist the domestic UAV industry in comprehensively implementing product cybersecurity. Over the past year since its establishment, the laboratory has established a domestic UAV cybersecurity testing mechanism, assisting 13 domestic UAV manufacturers and 22 UAV models in passing product cybersecurity testing, including various military-grade drones and commercial models. Additionally, the laboratory has completed cybersecurity testing for multiple UAV swarm systems, helping domestic UAVs enhance their cybersecurity resilience and ensuring that UAV group flights and showcasing activities can be carried out under safer conditions.

Furthermore, on November 28th, 2023, TTC became the world's first accredited UAV testing laboratory by the renowned third-party professional testing and certification organization, the DEKRA Group. In the future, domestic UAV manufacturers will be able to obtain international certification, align with international standards, and further enhance the global competitiveness and visibility of the domestic UAV industry, thus rapidly expanding into overseas markets with the assistance of TTC. The moda looks forward to providing remote-controlled UAV cybersecurity testing services through public-private cooperation and establishing a secure supply chain for remote-controlled UAVs in Taiwan.
