The Ministry of Digital Affairs Released the 2024 Digital Access Survey Report, the Proportion of Citizens Receiving Government Notifications Increased by 8%.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced the 2024 Digital Access Survey Report. According to the report, digital media has become a primary and essential communication channel between the government and the public. The latest survey shows that Taiwan's internet usage rate remains stable at 87.6%. Most internet users use audio-visual entertainment, online banking, cloud services, and mobile payments. Notably, 91.2% of the entire online population received proactive notifications from the government in the past three months, an increase of 8% compared to the previous year.
The MODA conducts the Digital Access Survey annually to grasp the current state of digital access among citizens, understand internet usage habits and future trends, and provide data for government agencies to plan appropriate digital development strategies. This survey targets citizens aged 12 and above across 22 counties and cities in Taiwan, utilizing landline and mobile phone surveys. The latest survey was conducted between June and August this year, covering 70 indicators across 12 areas, including ICT access, usage and literacy, residence, education, and skills. The survey explores the digital usage situation of citizens from various perspectives and provides essential references for promoting national digital application policies and research.
The MODA pointed out that since 2020, the trend of internet usage in Taiwan has remained stable, with the usage rate fluctuating between 87.2% and 87.6% over the past three years. The trend in the internet applications is shifting towards audio-visual entertainment, online banking, cloud services, and mobile payment services, while traditional applications like information retrieval, software downloads, and emails are showing a steady decline. The result indicates that people's digital lives are gradually shifting towards more convenient and multifunctional digital applications. The survey shows that among the digital services provided by the government, 91 out of every 100 internet users have received proactive notifications from the government, which is an increase of 8 people compared to last year's survey results, highlighting the importance of digital media as a communication channel between the government and the public.
The MODA explained that digitalization profoundly impacts citizens' daily lives. This survey assesses the effects of gender, ethnic background, and residential areas on individual digital access opportunities, outlining a clear picture of the current status of digital access in Taiwan. The survey results can serve as a basis for showcasing past policy achievements, current resource allocation, and future governance planning, ultimately enhancing public welfare.
The survey had 15,133 valid responses with a sampling error margin of ±0.8% at a 95% confidence level. Detailed information is available( in Chinese only) on the MODA's website: https://gov.tw/mfW
