Minister Yennun Huang Led the Delegation to APEC Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting in Korea, Showcasing Taiwan’s Digital Strength and Commitment to Regional Cooperation

Minister Yennun Huang led the Taiwan delegation from August 4 to 6 to attend the APEC 2025 Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting held in South Korea. The meeting, themed “Digital and AI Transformation toward Prosperity and Sustainable Growth for All,” focused on how digital technologies and artificial intelligence can drive inclusive and sustainable growth. Minister Huang emphasized that Taiwan’s active participation in such international events demonstrates its digital resilience and commitment to deepening regional cooperation to advance its digital industries.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, along with Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and representatives from 21 APEC economies, jointly issued APEC’s first-ever Ministerial Declaration on Digital and AI. The declaration covered key areas, including AI applications, digital transformation, cybersecurity cooperation, digital inclusion, and digital infrastructure. It also called for joint efforts to build a trustworthy, secure, and sustainable digital ecosystem—goals that align closely with MODA’s priorities, including combating online fraud, strengthening digital resilience, and growing the digital economy.

Minister Huang noted that the meeting was not only an opportunity to showcase Taiwan’s digital achievements but also a platform to share Taiwan’s concrete approaches in promoting digital and AI innovation to tackle socio-economic challenges and to strengthen digital inclusion. He introduced Taiwan’s strategic initiatives like “On AI (One Network, All People Included)” and “Network for All”, which aim to ensure that all citizens benefit from digital transformation safely and equitably. He also highlighted that Taiwan’s AI ecosystem is built on three main pillars: promoting innovation, ensuring safety and trust, and advancing social equity.

Minister Hunag emphasized the importance of transparency and the participation of diverse stakeholders in AI governance, earning positive recognition from other attendees. Throughout the conference, Taiwan’s delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with digital ministers and representatives from other APEC economies on key topics, including AI development, cybersecurity, digital resilience, and innovation. These dialogues laid the foundation for future collaboration. Minister Huang also attended the Global Digital and AI Forum, co-hosted by South Korea and the World Bank, where he joined global leaders in discussing the challenges and future direction of AI and digital development.

Minister Huang expressed appreciation for the support provided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and stated that the visit was a great success. It not only demonstrated Taiwan’s capabilities and reliability as a digital partner in the Asia-Pacific region but also strengthened its role in international cooperation. Looking ahead, Taiwan will continue to deepen regional ties and drive the development of key digital sectors such as AI, cybersecurity, data applications, and next-generation communications, while showcasing its digital strength and global engagement.
